Where and When South Shore Mopars Began
By Don Dusterado
The year was 2008; there was a Mopar car show at the Randolph Chrysler Jeep dealership in Randolph MA. I brought the Duster out on that beautiful day, I parked next to a 1973 Green Plymouth Valiant Pro Street which belonged to Greg Dearden. The place filled up with totally awesome Mopars of all kinds. I met old friend Rick Snelgrove there, I hadn’t seen him in years. Other future SSM members I met that day were Steve Neittich and Dave Calvi. There were awards given out that day and the only one I remember given out was to Greg Dearden for best of show.
At this show, Rick Snelgrove, Greg Dearden and I talked about forming a Mopar car club. After this day, we didn’t talk or see each other until February of 2009. Rick called me up and asked me if I wanted to attend a Mopar breakfast with some Mopar guys. The breakfast was on a Saturday and I didn’t want to go, because I had such a bad cold and felt like crap but, I thought I’d better go, because I’d be missing out on some fun if I didn’t.
The Saturday breakfast came along and we met at the Sunnyside Café in West Bridgewater. The group consisted of Rick Snelgrove, Joe Giandini, Greg Dearden and myself. It was great catching up again with Rick, Greg and meeting Joe. Rick took down information about forming a club and we had a great breakfast. Again, we didn’t communicate until I met Joe, Rick and Greg at Patriot Place for the Bass Pro Thursday night car cruising in July.
What a spectacular night that was. There were a couple thousand cars there, and a lot of extremely nice Mopars.
After that night I started cruising to other nightly cruise shows. The wheels of Time Thursday cruise night at the South Easton Regional High School in Easton, which changed to the Raynham dog track a few years later, and the Friday cruise night at the Halifax Walmart. Along with other cruise shows, I would talk to Mopar people and ask them if they would like to join and cruise with a group of Mopar people.
I am still talking and asking Mopar people if they want to join. That is how South Shore Mopars started and is growing.
